    The Surging Kern

Breasted poutings of long leaf pines kissing
winds of October’s eyes in the midst of coming purge
Where summer's touch has left the cadence of
purity's flow amidst the crystalline banks of the
surging Kern.

The sky breaths blue and sighs share shadows
as mist of foam crests the rocks that spirit
across the current in slippery path
where the trees sweater the chilled air
with perfume.

Crisp breezes joyfully run amongst the
whisperings of summer memories left behind by
the adoring eyes of small children as they filled
the open pockets of silence in innocent glee.

An inner tube lays deflated and muddy,
covered with leaves and dry brush
beside the deer prints that dot
the muddy bank in pools of recollection.

Hidden just behind the edge of the forest
line, quietly gazing out, rests the golden form
of a mountain lion against the shadowed sun as
the rays frolic in the hard facets of reddened
rock.

Under a pine with squirrels ticking
time sees no danger in sun cast visage
and lingers there in entwining reverie
with breath of cooling silk clad wondering
that fills the glistening Lake Isabella.

Tormented stumps of fallen pines breaching
surface of darkened ripples as the October
winds lift the gasping breath of yesterday and
briskly sweep them on to the renewal of
tomorrow's birth.

In the twilight of this place
we have found a hand held vista
wrapped in sky and trees and water
nature brings our hearts together
touched now by the same enrapture.

Thank you Mark, for taking me back to the happy memories of time spent at this lovely place!!

two tremendous talents combine to create a contemporary pastoral setting that needs no photo - the graphic beauty elicited by the words - exceeds any that a photographer could capture.

Martie~ and MarkB~
It comes as no surprise to me that you two
blend so lovely with this offering.

Horizons of travel are so often met in the mind ...
and you've met the spirited joining
of delicious thoughts here.

Such a panorama of pleasure from two marvelous poets.
Love you both~

Thank you both for the walk along the
banks...this was beautiful and so peaceful.
The melded styles and melded memories made
for an exquisite piece of art work...when
ever I walk away from either one of you I
feel that I've walked away from gazing at a
painting...this one is was a whole exhibit
in itself...so many beautiful things to look
at...then on the banks there are the both of
you...**sigh** such beauty...
