Eden's Plot

In the wooded hills is Eden’s plot
A thousand shades of green
Surrounding secret gardens
That few eyes have ever seen

The circle moon of opal light
Above the towering pine
Casts mantles of peculiar white
On flowers, lawn and vine

Disguising brilliant floral plants
That daylight will unfold
And a myriad of precious blooms
So few can e’er behold

For the garden is well hidden
Deep in Pennsylvania woods
And the old log house still nestles
In the hillside where it stood

Surrounded by a Shangri-La
Of heaven’s most splendid hues
Verbascum’s yellows, rose’s pink
And periwinkle blues

This little piece of heaven
Is a wonder to uplift
For the soil has been worked by hands
That know the future gift

And the blossoms tended daily
By someone who knows their worth
As she cares for each plant lovingly
In this Eden of the earth

It’s in this secret garden
That we see the face of God
Coming forth in early springtime
Through our sorrow’s winter sod

And it’s in this place of peacefulness
That splendid dreams were grown
Among the thousand shades of green
This was my precious childhood home

Elizabeth Santos

I just went back this weekend to see these lush surroundings which haven't changed in 50 years.I think it's the most beautiful spot on earth.

RP
It's in northern Chester County in an area completely surrouded by Pew (Sun Oil CO) owned lands and farms, so it is the same as it was when I was a little girl
Glad you enjoyed it. Where do you live?
