Awake

Awake beneath this lattice lace
sheer strands, translucent, giving glow
Soft moonlight, but a crescent's face
alighting slight the earth below

As thunder teases, tender sigh
of mem'ries aching, now recalled
In thought's asylum dare I lie
with sleep's arriving ease forstalled

And long has lived this night's desire
and long have appetitions grown
Within my heart there flames a fire
that lovers scarce have ever known

So to the dark, my whisper's wed
and soft, the silence craves my kiss
I'll lie upon this lovely bed
and close my eyes in reminisce

M.A., what a nice thing to say...thank you... I will add you to my  small list of poetic patrons. I keep it on a bubble gum wrapper.

Michael, thanks. I always appreciate your words of encouragement, and I'm glad to know you like this, my friend.

Kit, thank you so much for your sincere and generous commentary. It pleases me enormously when I can tell that someone has enjoyed my work, and your kind words make me smile.

Irish Rose, I'm so glad you enjoyed reading this...some modern poetry circles claim that rhyme is passe'...I simply cannot agree with that. Thanks for the validating comment!

Sven, lying awake can sometimes be torture in and of itself, can it not? Thank you, my friend...

Walt, any line coming from you seems original! (and generally is) Thanks a bunch.

Vandana, Hello and thank you for the smiley, enthusiastic Wow.

Sudhir, I didn't realize anyone else had read this...you were up awfully early this morning.   Thank you for the nod of approval on this piece.
