To Life I Belong

by

Michael Auguste

I love to watch the leaves stirring
And the clouds as they race along
To close my eyes against the sun
And know that to life I belong

I love the different scents I smell
Grasshoppers jumping as I stroll
The heat lightning against the night
So many things that keep us whole

And breath on lips before a kiss
The eyes that close to savor it
Such things in life are happiness
Rekindled hope that once was lit

There's so much pleasure that I see
Such loveliness is all around
From stars in their eternity
To simple things upon the ground

Such hope, such peace, such beauty, bold
And such like these are part of me
And yet much more my heart can hold
The depth of it you cannot see

Life has the fairest face of all
So warm she is in my embrace
Each day I wake, I hear her call
Her dress, pale blue and trimmed in lace

At least, that's how I think of her
That life's so sweet, her lips I'll kiss
And cherish all she's given me
A peaceful soul that's filled with bliss

I look around and fall in love
Such hope there is in all I see
To breathe the air, to taste the rain
So soothing I find it to be

Michael~

There are some beautiful phrases, full of imagery in here.

'Life has the fairest face of all
So warm she is in my embrace
Each day I wake, I hear her call
Her dress, pale blue and trimmed in lace'

What lovely thoughts.

This was so beautiful and sweet!  Taking the time to notice the wonder in life all around.  I do so love this piece!

The best way to sum up my opinion is to quote one of your lines... "Such hope, such peace, such beauty, bold"  This is the essence of this poem.

I love the line... "And know that to life I belong" but as for "Grasshoppers jumping as I stroll"... they usually make me scream!!!

Michael, I know we've talked about this before, but one of the things I find so striking about your work is how you so effectively incorporate sensory idea, image and emotion. This piece, of course, is a consummate example of just that. You already know I love it, my friend.

Jaimie,

Yes, to life we all belong...sometimes we just need to take a closer look, I suppose.  I'm sorry about the grasshoppers. My grass is still kind of tall.     Take care of yourself and thank you for the very nice reply.
