The Shores of Alone

For Savanna, my beloved granddaughter.

A happy birthday-four years old
a little girl so sweet.
A butterfly soars in the air
from God, a special treat.

Her smile lights up, she reaches out
"Look at what I see!"
Scoops in her hand the tiny life,
"Can I keep him, please?"

I tell her no, he must be free
if not, he'll surely die.
She gently brings him to the door
releases to the sky.

Her heart is as the butterfly
a brightly colored treasure
yet must be handled lovingly
to find her fullest measure.

Two little lives crossed paths today
somehow they came together.
Her sparkling eyes and happy face
are my joy to remember.

Good poem Catalinamoon.
I like the way you explained to your 4yr old granddaughter that the butterfly must be free. Respect all life.  Good message.
Again, good work.  I look forward to reading many more.

catalinamoon...

First of all, I thought this was just magnificent, and especially so since your little Savanna is such a sweetheart! Got the picture just now. Look for mail tomorrow!

Today is a gift....
That is why they call it
'the Present'!

Thanks everyone for reading this, as you can see, my little girl means the world and more to me. And to butterflies-don't-cry I am going to show her your message, she will love the butterflies. Thanks again. I know its not a complex or award winning poem, but its from the heart.
