What happened to that little boy
I once held in my arms,
Tugging at my heartstrings
With his sweetness and his charms.

He was my little shadow
That followed me around.
Giving hugs and kisses
Causing my heart to pound.

And as an adolescent
I was as proud as I could be.
Achieving many accomplishments,
Always seeking approval from me.

Then throughout his teenage years
He was as gentle as a lamb.
His heart filled with respect and compassion.
He was becoming quite a young man.

Now off to college he has gone
And time has flown so fast, it seems.
With less than one year left,
He is finding  all his dreams.

By the end of this summer
He will begin a new life.
More goals to be accomplished.
Together, with a new wife.

So as I release the last of the strings,
I have to say "job well done".
Together we raised an upstanding young man.
And we're very proud of you, son.

He is really blessed to have a loving and a caring mother and this chain of love will continue in your sons family. So wonderful.  James

Very beautiful poem.  I find that myself as a son have to stop and wonder what my mother should think of me sometimes.  I should hope that she is as  proud of me as you are of your son.

Thank You.

Thank you all for your comments.

Lavada, you're right about new horizons.  But it's hard to see him off on his own.  But I know he will do well.

Thank you James.  That is awfully sweet of you.

Chris, trust me, I'm sure you're mom is just as proud of you.  There is that special bond with sons that only a mom can have.

A mother giving praise to her children is great. There needs to be more of that in this world.

This poem...A Job Well Done!

Ruth, I didn't see you sneak in! LOL They sure do grow fast.  Before you know it they are up and gone.  Haven't shown him yet as I just wrote this today.  He's away at school in another state, but I was thinking about emailing this to him. Thanks.
