I found a roll of film today
Undeveloped I’m afraid
The label says 1982
Seeing this, I am dismayed

What photos lurk within
Negative images here
A time past, love lost
Passions we held dear

Do I want to see what
My heart has as memory
Will I again feel the pain
Of love that used to be?

I hold the film in my hand
Then quietly toss it away
Like the love I held in my heart
Remnants of a happier day

Oh Sharon ...
Go get it !  Go get it !
I have a friend whose mother passed away last year.  On going through her cedar chest she and her sister found a roll of undeveloped film from some 36 years ago.
They took it and had it developed and to their wonder and amazement, it contained pictures of the two sisters at ages of eight and ten years and their mother and father.

I purposely placed four rolls of undeveloped film in my cedar chest for my children to someday find and enjoy.

The magic of the camera commands HALT ...
and time stands still for years.
Me?  I'd be dying to see what my memory tells me is captured on the film.

Wonderfully developed poem, my dear.
Love ya' ~*Marge*~

Thank you for your kind repies. This is a work of fiction...I personally could never leave a roll of film undeveloped...I found one today from about 3 months ago..knowing what was on it, of course I will get it developed. But it started me thinking...what if I found one that had been taken before my divorce? Would I want to develop that one? So this is the poem I wrote about such a problem....

Arghh, I'm not sure how this poem made me feel.  I don't think I could be strong enough to just tossit, but then I know I'd most assuredly regret developing it too...sigh.  Great poem.

mmmmm been there and done just that PdV...some are better left in the can...nice work even if it is apocryphal -- especially if it's apocryphal -- you exactly captured the mood when it happened to me.

Sharon-
Whew !  I'm glad to hear that.
Even if it was like wine
and '82 was a bad year ...
I still wouldn't know it until I tasted it,
so I'd have to develop it.

I guess that I am Justin Thyme

You say you found some undeveloped
film with pictures of your past?
And yet you tossed it in the trash
for fear of pain that might just last?

I'm reading right, I take it, friend,
you threw away the roll of pics?
Well, all that I can say is this...
there's nothing that that film could fix!

You did the right thing, clearly, dear,
you tossed it in the garbage quick...
'cause if you saw the past in print
you'd think of lost thymes and get sic. (?)

That's JUST what happened to me, too!
I tossed away the past and then
I got crusaded to a 'stute
where I don't have a clue of "when"!

They tie me up onto a bed
and make me drink some potions -- YUCK!
And then they wisk me off to bed
to try to sleep and say, 'good luck'!

Well, 'stute life ain't the best, dear one,
but what it teaches me each day...
is that I shouldn't call it "done"
with memories of yesterday.

And so, deVine, I beg you, listen...
go to the trash, and find what's missin'!

sincerely yours, your friend,

Justin Thyme

I don't disagree with throwing it away. There's nothing worse than a revolting development~~~

Sharon it amazes me that you would think of something like that from finding a roll of film....NOT!  haha I might have tossed it, but I know sooner than later I would have went and got it.  I still have 3 rolls from Colorado I haven't developed yet. I don't develop them I guess because of what was left behind.  One day, maybe, they will get developed.
