There is a never ending forcast of doom.
It circles around us,
silently reminding us that every day
may be our last,
That the road we travel is certainly lonely,
deceptively vast.

When I am sent on a shadowed detour
in moments like this,
through the damp, winding roads of a park,
with the same cars surrounding me all the time,
that I remember, in somber fright,
where it all began.

Native American prayer

This is interesting.  "Shadowed detour" is a dark imagery for sure.  Left me hanging though, "where it all began".

 and you can say baby...
baby can I hold you tonight
maybe if told you the right words...

Chris, I am so curious about this poem...I like the sound of the writing, but I'm not sure I understand its meaning. Would love to know more about your inspiration for this piece if you'd care to share it.

To all who replied...I had to laugh at the questions regarding the meaning of this poem. I had to change it around from its first form because it made no sense then! I wrote it a few years ago when I was stuck in a thunderstorm and sent down a long detour through a state park. The cars were practically stopped (or how else could I write ) and the wheater was so bad that began to feel very claustrophobic and almost panicky at the fact that there was really no way out. Feeling "stuck" in my car made me think about how we all have the illlusion of being in control in are lives....I tend to avoid driving in thunderstorms!
