I walked a lonely road one time
And knew not where it went.
And never guessed til I’d arrived-
How bad the time was spent.
The turns and twists were hard to bear-
The grades I found too steep-
At last I found that I was there
And hung my head to weep.
I found it best to travel light
And left my friends behind.
I feared that they would slow me down-
Or share what I would find.
I dared not have someone to love-
She’d slow me in my quest-
They say the one who runs alone-
Is he who runs the best.
Ah, I arrived! My journey done-
I stood there broken hearted.
And what a fool, life’s race to run-
Then wind up where he started.
But years are gone, and all the dreams
Which make a life worth living-
We learn too late…our futile schemes
You only gain through giving.

Gunslinger, thanks for bringing us along on "this" road with you...loved this piece. You know what Harry Chapin said, "It's got to be the going, not the getting there, that's good." Oh how true.

Take care,

Wow, this is excellent so well done
And this road oh yes I know
I took once such a turn
But It made me learn
Not to go this way again.
Thank you

Slinger~
This is such a simple truth.
Wonderfully stated.
The spotlight is a lonely place
if there are no crowds to cheer.

exactly...giving is the best part in life. I love this scene you painted.
