The Child
A child is born to have a life
There is no husband nor a wife
A child remembered a child forgot
They ask for little but need a lot

A kindly smile a word of praise
for in this child our world must raise
Alone at death alone at birth
They try to figure what they are worth

The child desires the child in need
They grow like flowers they hurt they bleed
The growth of mind the growth of place
There is no color there is no race

A child turns into what they see
Into something good they flee
A child remembered a child forgot
They ask for little but need a lot

"A child turns into what they see"

That is so true and so powerful and so overlooked in this day and age.  Great poem, kitkat.  Touches me deeply as a father.

zk,
It's that very attitude why we see kids going on shooting sprees in schools - and the teenage pregnancy rate is so high, as well as teen suicide and I could go on and on.  It's ashamed some people will never realize where the true problem lies.

Kathy...
This is great!! Our children certainly do become what they see... We should all remember that... Especially when they're little munchkins...

Wonderful poem, Kitkat! Filled with wisdom!

And slight is the sting of his trouble
Whose winnings are less than his worth;
For he who is honest is noble,
Whatever his fortunes or birth.~~~Alice Cary, ~Nobility~

Thank-you for all of your replies. Children of today have so much to deal with that adults need to take some time out and help them figure it out. I am a single parent and it was rough raising two children by myself but By listening to my kids and helping them through their times of need they turned out pretty darn good.  One kid is a Chef-the other is in the banking field. Not to shabby.
