A prostitute, I turned from you.
You were harsh and rude and street wise.
One day I took the time to look
and saw a child in your eyes.

The baby dolls you never owned.
The evil parents bent on pain.
So young to be here all alone.
nothing to lose, so much to gain.

I reached a gentle hand to you.
I promised you could come along.
You clung to me and let me lead.
I tried to teach you to be strong.

Showed you a life you’d never led.
I took you where you’d never been.
Now three years later it’s so sad
that you are on the street again.

Your strung out on that evil crack
And you’ve gone back to what you know.
I offered you all that I could
when you had no where left to go.

Twenty years old and on the street
I told you there was so much more.
Now you are faced with evil truths
That you weren’t caused to face before.

I promised I would stand by you,
That I would be your one true friend.
The drugs caused you to walk away,
but not what took you in the end.

How do I say goodbye to you?
The little girl I couldn’t save.
I’ll just have to pray you see
This rose I place upon your grave.

I'll miss you always Crystal Lynn
It's sad that you will never know.
That in this world you had a friend
I'll never let your memory go.

This is a powerful, sad piece. Very well written. I can feel the pain in your words, Lucie.

Lucie -

This is heartbreaking ...
and hauntingly lovely.
Hard to understand ...
when you do all you can ...
and it isn't enough.

Bless you.

Lucie: This is beautiful and heartbreaking. I know you'll never stop grieving or wishing she'd made a better choice, but that won't stop you from trying to help someone else. And I'm glad of that, though I pray your heart isn't broken again. *S* At least she HAD a choice... before you, she didn't.

Knowing this was written from your own experience makes this piece all the more heartrending. Such a tender glimpse into a sad story. Thanks for sharing here.

Deeply moving and powerful.  Exellent work.

Lady Lucie: I have no doubt from your words here that you tried your best, but it was not for you to save her... it was she who had to make that happen. Some people just don't have the strength to make it through, no matter how much love and support they are offered.  Your poem speaks volumes for what you did and I hope that spark of humanity within you always burns bright for those whom have lost their way. My best to you and yours.

Andrew

Oh dear Lucie....now I know why you haven't been back in full swing yet....I am so sorry.  You did all you could do, as Andrew said.  The rest was up to her, and she just wasn't strong enough.  I am proud of you for trying.  Keep you chin up....you must be going through a rough time with this.  It's terrible...such a waste of a young precious life.  You are in my thoughts babe.  You know I'm here if you need to talk....Drop me an email or look for me on ICQ.....Love, Gen
BTW, this poem was a beautiful tribute for her....
