I think it’s time I rolled my bed-
And saddled up to ride.
I hear the wild geese calling
Somewhere on the Great Divide.

There’s something in the wind-
Which stirs a longing in my veins.
To hear my saddle creaking-
Somewhere on the open plains.

I want to see the Milky Way-
A backdrop for my bed...
And feel my saddle pillow-
Underneath my weary head.

To smell the strong black coffee
From my can upon the fire-
And spend my last days drifting
This is my heart’s desire.

They talk of love and marriage-
And I haven’t got a thing..
Against those institutions....
And wearing wedding rings..

But some of us were meant to roam-
Out where the grizzly’s king-
To put a brand or ring on us-
You clip an eagle’s wings.

I want to hear the cold North wind
Moaning through the pines.
And hear the mournful timber wolf
He is some kin of mine.

I want to die, my bones to lie-
Upon some mountain side...
I think it’s time I rolled my bed-
And saddled up to ride.

This is simply wonderful. Brings to mind memories of "Sweet Baby James."

I certainly hope that by being your "time to ride" you aren't ready to hang up your spurs, Gunslinger.  This is a vivid mournful cry to days sadly now passed.  It truly pulls at my heartstrings, cowboy.  Write On!

Again, another beautiful piece of art.  Truly lovely.

If you stray out on the plains, and off the Great Divide, I'll have the coffee hot and thick, and have ya sit a spell.
