The day had come as it does for us all
When they found Toerag face down in Fruit Loops
The breakfast table fed him his last meal
Should have ate more bran and raisins two scoops

But there Toe was drowned in two percent milk
With eyes glazed over in yummy goodness
Now at the table sat two more figures
Come to judge Toe's soul of its worthiness

The angel in white found much that it liked
The devil in black could work with this lad
Staring at each other here's what they said,
"Seems dead even! Equally good and bad."

Well this was unique, stumped they truly were
Till a deck of cards the devil did make
Five card stud ~ no miracles or curses
Such were the house rules for the soul at stake

They shuffled the cards, were ready to deal
When into the kitchen strolled a sweet belle

"I've got a stake to claim, so deal me in!"
"Sutherns the name. You must be Heaven and Hell."

The two figures looked at one another
And with a shrug asked, "What might be your bet?"
"Love" was her answer, pulling up a chair
"Should ether of you win, my soul's the debt."

Love had won both sides many a fine prize
So they took the deal and dealt her a hand
Down and dirty five cards without a peek
Between Heaven and Hell she made her stand

Heaven got its sevens, Hell went with six
Question was how many did each one get?
They both believed they held the winning hand
Though Suthern was still to look at hers yet.

"Boys," she said, "You might as well just give up
Because I know I've got the winning hand.
To prove it to ya I will raise the stakes!
My faith against yours to win this here man."

Faith was something that neither would wager
So folding their cards they blinked out of there
It was then Toe said from his cereal
"Morning Suthern. You playing solitaire?"

Suthern smiled as she looked at the cards
And told Toe to finish his morning mush
Then one by one the cards she turned over
To find a sweep of hearts in royal flush

Oh, this is really well played, Andrew. I like this one! Of course, the game would have to be Five Card Limp, 'cause Stud and Toerag just don't go well together....and Suthern with a winning hand?   I'll have to pass on that one! Winning Toe's soul with a flush, though, does seem quite appropriate.

When this one began with sweet Toe's demise
I simply couldn't believe my eyes!
For without his smile, I just couldn't see
What use living would be for me!
But I like your thoughts that love can prevail
Against even the powers of heaven and hell. *S*

I enjoyed this, Andrew!! *G* Even though I do think I'd be giving Toe better breakfasts than Fruit Loops! LOL. I realize that Balladeer's pathetic joke attempts are motivated by jealousy. *G* (When he really should be sending Toe sympathy for having to put up with me! LOL)

Thank you one and all for the laughs in turn. You make it easy to have fun and Toe is just ripe full of material... Suthern, I hope this makes up for the time I shot you dead several forums back  ... Sir Balladeer, thanks for the funny stuff and for your discretionary ways.

Lady Marilyn... I also owe some gratitude too you for the encouragement to finish this one up as most of my recent posts have been more serious in nature.

Again, Big Thanks to you all!
