The Window of my Soul

All living things respect the winter storm
Bowing down in reverence to its power
Submitting to the bitterness it brings
Politely waiting springtime's golden flower

Crisp and deadened leaves of autumn past
Swirl around in cold December breeze
Barren dogwood there in humble stance
Remains in meek surrender to the freeze

Powdered woven lace upon the grass
Succumbs to melt in morning's warming rays
But creatures ready for a thicker coat
A coverlet of crystal winter days

Sycamore in noble posture stands
Branches braced in sure and stiffened bold
Lush dark leaf of evergreen encurls
As rhododendron curtsies to the cold

Holly is the only unafraid
Showing off its branch with crimson hand
Gloating in its beauty to the wind
Calling out for cardinal to land

And I sit by the window of my soul
Watching all the splendor to unfold
Marveling at nature's swift defense
Of the impending January cold

This is really gorgeous Liz.....one of my many favorites that you've written

A soul that writes from the heart and shares it, truly gives a gift extraordinaire!

Thank you, dear poets
This is what I saw when I looked out my window this morning, much more entertaining than TV

Beautiful!
