Shatters

Help, help, save!
I'm drowning in a sea of love!
O invisible savior I never see but hope for,
How does a lovely horrid thing come to be so?
How could I have been so weak,
And yet feel so loved?
Fraud, fake, liar,
Please, O please, see, see!
I am not who you think me to be!
I am not the diamond you thought I was!
Stop, stop, all this love coming undeserving.
"You're my friend," they always tell me.
And yet where are you when I say I need someone to listen?
"You're just too perfect," they explain impatiently.
No, no!  I have flaws, I have a heart, and I'm only human
Nothing more, nothing less.

Rescue, rescue, revive!
I'm dying because everyone loves me too much!
O lost friend I shall never know,
How could I come to be in this beautiful, dangerous place?
How can I be so shallow,
And yet I see myself reflected in their eyes as a princess?
Faux, feign, pretend,
Please, O please, listen, listen!
I am nothing more than a sham
Put up for show just for you!
Take away all this love you shower me with.
"You're like a crystal among the rocks," they repeat over and over...
And why can't they see the shatters slowly forming?
"You're the forever in our hearts," they smile sincerely
And yet you can't see that I'm ending...
Because I'm not the person you think I am.

Shatters, cracks, fractures,
O I'm breaking apart, piece by piece!
So I cry alone, lonely, in the night and cast out,
By all the love you've given a poor rag doll
Who isn't the princess you held so high
The tears never seem to be noticed
The winces of pain never asked about
The terrible silent screams I have inside never relieved
O someone, someone, anyone!
Save me from this terrible plight!
I'm drowning in a sea of such loving warmth,
That I'm growing cold.
"I love you," I will always tell you, and I mean it.
And they will reply always, "We love you forever, our friend."
So I cry alone in the night,
The broken little ragdoll with a crown that doesn't belong
Wondering when, O when!
When they will realize that,
It will be too late
And all they will love will be only a pile
Of shatters

"Sometimes stars can only be seen in darkness."

"Sorrow's crown of sorrow is remembering happier things."

I love the style and the urgency in this - and how it winds down towards the end, depicting such a lost soul.

Very sad - and very well done, Astraea.

Deceit is a tool used by the weak. your poem is honest. I
hope your passionate words
bring comfort to any person
who has felt the same way.

           never give up

Very well said!
