Like a dagger

Like a dagger
You found me one moment
Lost me in the next
Lasting like a kiss
A moment of sweetness before we part

Like a dagger
Slipping into my heart
Unnoticed when I fell into your embrace
A moment of warmth before everything cools

Like a dagger
A thing to protect
A thing to kill
A whisper that can heal and lie

Like a dagger
Pretty, cherished
Hiding the danger
A poison hidden in your eyes

Like a dagger
It hurts
But we heal
Leaving a scar

When the night's shadow falls
Gently caressing your heart
Remember this

Our guards tremble before the passion
Our defenses break between the kisses
But the pain once it's gone
Stealing away your surrender
Leaving you empty and broken
Is like a pain deeper than any other
It burns
It aches
It destroys
And nothing more could be its comparison
For love, once poisoned,
Is like a dagger

"Sometimes stars can only be seen in darkness."

"Sorrow's crown of sorrow is remembering happier things."

Powerful words here!  I enjoyed this!
