Okay...As a very good friend has told me he would compile a list of classical music/artists that I should definetely check out to build my collection (*clears throat loudly* I haven't forgotten, yanno) Soo..anyways...Since that, I've decided this is a good way to perk up other interests for me. What I need here is a list, you wonderful people. I need a list of Classic books that you have read. I know there is more out there than what I read in high school and even more than the few I've read since. So, let me have them please. A selective list if you will..I only want to hear the ones you've read and liked. Ohh..and they have to be real Classics, and recent authors to me, don't mean Classics. I picked up "East of Eden" by John Steinback the other day. Thats a start. still d-i-s-c-o-n-n-e-c-t-e-d |

You don't want "recent" authors, but you picked up Steinbeck? Any more recent than that and he's probably posting in Open in right now… |

ROTFL.. okay, so kick me, Ron. I hadn't been to bed yet. I was really referring to the Literature thread where someone put Dean Koontz and other such authors on the list. Do they really count? I haven't been up to speed in a LOONNGG time on who's still recent yanno. Geesh...ROTFL I should stay in my corner shouldn't I? still d-i-s-c-o-n-n-e-c-t-e-d |

If you really want a challenge. . . try picking up Finnegan's Wake by James Joyce. . . *the room clears with screams of horror and indignation!!* Well, maybe not. . .it took me 4 months to read that. . . and then I read two more books about it!!! Hmmmmmmmmmmm. . . why not read Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen?? It's a great book, and is recognized as the book that started the "Gothic" Literature trend. Should be right up your alley!! -------------------------------------------------------- To the world, you may only be one person. But to one person, you may be the world. |

I have read and enjoyed many classics (and read and forgotten even more than that LOL) -- but the one that really caught my attention was "The Confessions of Felix Krull, Confidence Man." I am really terrible with authors' names, so this may be incorrect, but I believe it was written by (Thomas?) Mann ... If you read closely, there are a few "radical ideas" espoused in this little piece which makes it a good deal ahead of its time ... Linda |
