Saluting with misty eyes

In another thread on the hallowed Blue Pages, there are complaints about how the moderators run this site... that the moderators do not pull all offending posts equally..
Well, that might be so; however, the number of people actively doing Moderator duties here is easily counted on both hands... and we have a readership/poster number hovering somewhere in the 12,000 mark, or better.
Ron has done a wonderful thing with this site, and the Moderators, Senior Moderators, and Administrators do what they can, and take their jobs very seriously, regardless of how overworked they might be.

A very simple request from one of those moderators:

JOIN US!!!!!!!

Go to the member's area, and click on the "Deputy Moderator Application" link (third from the top), and help us make your website run more smoothly. We cannot catch every post that might step over the guidelines, and would very much enjoy your help, in addition to pointing out all of the posts you feel are offending through the report link in the post.

Thank you for your assistance.

Ringo,

I read your plea for the same thing last time you posted it and filled out the application.  When I changed my name from 'aziza' to Alison, I waited for the required number of posts and filled it out again.  Never heard anything back so I can only assume two things - 1) the number of Deputy Moderators is at the level needed to run PiP or 2) I was deemed unfit to be a DM.

Thank you,
A

Alison, to make sure you qualified, I believe you were given a note to the effect that even under your new name, you had to meet the requirements of registration. However, some of our admins have been pulled in varied and terrible situations this last year, and we've not been able to meet our own requirements as assigned. I believe this will be coming to an end soon, as we are getting our lives back into some order.

If you care to resubmit your name in the near future, I'm fairly sure it will be taken into consideration rapidly.

Thanks!

Boy that response of mine sounded pretty down in the old mouth, didn't it.  I know that it would not be based on something unfair like being unfit.  I am sorry for making such a stupid comment - it was a rough morning, but after a long drive, I got my perspective back.

Thank you Ringo, Sunshine and Balladeer for all that you contribute to PiP.  When I came here, I had no idea how much it would mean to me a few years later.

Forgive me for the brief pity party?

Moonbeam

As long as they disabled your "delete this post" option, I think you would make a great moderator.

Dang Ess - you sussed me out.

Responsibility without POWER!  Omg, that sounds altogether too altruistic pour moi!

MB,

I have a spare magic wand or two and would be happy to send it your way.  Power is so much more fun with a magic wand!

Perhaps it might help if the admins simply asked those they see as being qualified, if they would be willing to volunteer a little of their time?  Sometimes all it takes is a personal invitation.

Inviting someone is a good idea. Sometimes we assume if you wanted to help you'd ask US. So I think this is good that Ringo brought this up for discussion. Some newer members may not know how/where to apply.
