This may be a continuation of this thread:
/pip/Forum29/HTML/000175.html , but there's another problem child out there.

http://www.geocities.com/silver_howlings/

While doing a routine search on what seems to be my most liked piece, Riding Wistful Horses, I found this one: http://www.geocities.com/silver_howlings/howlings.htm

Out of curiosity, I did more checking.

I'll be writing up the letter to fax to Yahoo to get both this site and another http://www.geocities.com/SouthBeach/Docks/6059/poetry.html either modified or removed tonight and tomorrow, to go out on the 26th.

Kit's the real expert on this stuff, Ali, and there are plenty of old threads around here where she's detailed appropriate plans of attack.

My advice? If there's an email address on the site, write and ask them to remove all work for which they don't have written permission. Then ignore it until next year.

If there is no email address on the site? Just ignore it until next year any way.

And Merry Christmas to you, btw, Ali. I doubt it was a white one?

Thanks Ron.

Sun just came up, and though it's not white, the ground is a nice sienna..almost rosy color. Of course, a bit later, it will be shades of umber and grit...but that's later.

As for the geocities sites, I'm already starting the process of getting my signiture on file with them, to hasten the editing/removal of nefarious homepages, since the ones I've seen so far do not include a valid email. One that really threw me for a loop was when I found 'Incurable Romantic' at blackplanet and migendre...27 instances! At migendre, it was circulating as a guestbook signature of about 7 people, one of whom changed the title but left the body intact. Since those two sites are owned by the same corporation, that's where my email went. Hope to hear something back from them by next week, or the first week of January, on the outside.

Merry Christmas gentlemen!

Ali, I've pulled up a link that hopefully will give you some ideas. One of our members was having a problem and I gathered a fair bit of information for him in the following link.  I hope it helps.

.
I know it can be frustrating, but have good cheer. If they're copying it ... it's because they like it and wish they'd written it themself.

I don't mean to say that lightly, it's just a good silver lining if you're frustrated. I've been pretty angry in the past, and was even to a lawyer once up against a pretty big copyright issue. It all worked out though in the end. Sometimes it takes a bit to get their attention, but you will. Good luck.

Thanks Kit. I have had to handle this type of stuff before, and with Yahoo, that can be rather trying. In my first reponse to this thread though, there were many poems harvested from netpoets then put on a single homepage, with the homepage owner claiming full copyright, so I wasn't entirely sure if this was a matter for the Admins here to step in, or if I should just worry about my own piece, though the rest were also stolen.
That's why there's just the name of the piece, the netpoets url, and the author's name, as all the works have been copied and pasted into one page, which is the geocities url preceding the listing.

In cases like the one with many Passion's members, Ali, I've usually gone after them regarding my poem in question, but in the same letter, will add that I am a member of the Passion's site, of which I am familiar with other members and additional copyright issues. I'll usually provide a link of some of the others I've spotted that were plagiarized. In addition, it doesn't hurt to mention that you've copied the owner of the netpoets site to bring it to his attention. Just seeing Ron's name cc'd sometimes give it some more legitimacy without anyone else having to do anything.

Let us know how it works out?
