Slipping through the door
Of my old-time pub
Getting away from the crowds
So's not to any snub

Then I looked around
And great was my surprise
Gone were the fixtures
Wide were my eyes

Gone was the oaken bar
Up was a mirrored ball
Gone were the cozy booths
People wall to wall

All I wanted was a brew
Or maybe triple espresso
Glenfiddich, Glenlivit
But the bartender says 'No'

'Only sodas and designer water
No alcoholic or mixed drinks
No coffee nor any herbal teas
Old-fashioned, or so me thinks'

So I lean myself against the wall
And watch the gyrating folks
Sadly sipping at my water
Since they also outlawed smokes

Hello Alicat,

Thumbs up! Or, Toast 2 Toast our Water
I could use a brew too

Yep, I hear ya. Great poem!

Didn't you know, the Corner Pub was bought out by a conglomerate? I think Starbucks. They're setting up franchises all over the place. Sure liked it better when it was owned by mom & pop.

I love this place, and here's the rub
There's nothing like the corner pub
I used to come here for a brew
Cause poor Denise had naught to do

But now the pub is really hoppin'
The poetry is never stoppin'
It's still as friendly as can be
But much more interesting, you see

The problem with the Corner Pub
Is poor Denise just can't keep up!

Loved your poem
Liz
