My true love brought him home to me,
This doggie with no pedigree.
His ears are long, his tail is short,
His dragging middle needs support.
His trusting eyes looked into mine,
And I fell hard for this canine.
"He'll need a license, shots and such,
But they shouldn't cost you very much."
My true love spoke so tenderly,
Handing his doggie gift to me.
"Of course you'll want to neuter him,
And by the way I call him Jim."
He left me then with no good-bye.
I realized the reason why
He'd brought this little dog to me,
The doggie with no pedigree.
My true love wanted to be free.
"Twas his own dog he'd brought, and he
Was shifting responsibility
For Jim, by giving him to me.
"Good riddance and a fair trade too,
I'd rather have this dog than you."
I said these words for now I knew
That my true love was never true.
If he comes back another day,
I'll surely send him on his way.
But even should he plead for him,
He can't have little doggie, Jim.
At last I've found a love that's true.
I'm keeping him, now wouldn't you?

Woof! Yeah!
Way to go, Joyce!
I love your doggie, love your attitude, too!
A fine, smooth portrayal here - much enjoyed!

Great, Joyce!
I missed this one too.
But I can't read everything! lol
I have a little "terripoo" named "Curly" that we got the same way. She was a stray dog, that followed my youngest son around on his bike until we adopted here.
My "old girl" before her, was a Basset hound named "Sandy" who died in '97. I miss her terribly. She was a good friend.
Very good read.
Thanks.

NIcely done! I enjoyed this poem very very much! Your attitude is one to admire.

I was born myself, raised myself, and will continue to be myself. The world will just have to adjust.

I'm in love with my shadow
I admire it daily

Yes! At least dogs give unconditional love. No better friend you'll find!
I have 3 dogs myself; one from a pet rescue, so I have a tender heart for these loveable creatures God created.
I dearly love this poem!
