                  MY WILD RIDE

It was small and scrawny, ugly at best, but it was mine,
My Dad had told me I would get one sometime.
My brothers had theirs, had for years,
I never thought I'd get one, Dad calmed those fears.

His coat was grey, speckled with black, he could of been green I didn't care,
He was beautiful, the horse of my dreams, most of all, he was here,
My brothers called him an old plow horse, fit only for dog meat
Dad said don't worry, he looks fast, he'll be hard to beat..

That proved to be a mixed blessing, filled with fear along with the pride,
I'll never forget the day he took me for that terror filled ride.
My brothers decided to put him to the test, and gave him a whack,
They soon would have given a lot to have it back.

That little horse bolted, and down the road it went, boy he could fly.
I hung on with all my might, screaming and crying, as trees flashed by.
My brothers were trying to catch me, yelling, don't fall,
I paid no attention to them, all I could do was hang on and bawl.

They never would have caught us, but we came to a gate,
He stopped running, I stopped crying, to not move was really great.
My brothers always called this, Bills wild ride,
But I heard them brag to others, about my how my horse could run, with pride.

This last part is sad, I never thought I'd have this to say,
The life that shinned so bright, didn't end up that way.
He got hurt and was crippled, we never knew how,
My Dad sold him, the last time I saw him, he was pulling a plow.

A wonderful depiction of a wild ride. it reminds me of my last horseback ride when I was 12 years old.

Bill you do a great job of sharing your memories with us in the form of poetry.  I was holding my breath as your horse dashed with you holding on!!  What a wild (and scarey) ride!!!!
