Christmas morning would come
After a long sleepless night
All four of us girls up at 6.am.
Before the sun would shine her light

We had to make sure Mom and Dad were up
Before we ran down the stairs
Anxious to see what he brought
And what was put in our stockings with care

Running down the staircase
Turning the corner we would see
Presents surrounding the bottom
Of our brightly lit Christmas tree

Before we could rip them open
And play with all our new toys
Mom would tell us to wait…
Until she woke up the boys

It would seem like forever that morning
The minutes would grow very long
We weren’t allowed to get started
Until we sang the special song

Kneeling down by the small manger,
We would bow our heads and pray
We would give thanks for all we had
Then a family of eight would sing…
            “Happy Birthday”

what a lovely story about Christmas..

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

Aw, Bethy, This is so beautiful. I'm so glad that I could give you such happy memories. When we all sang "Happy Bithday to Jesus", it was to remember the true meaning of the day. I'm glad that my little lesson worked. Love and hugs...Mom

Thank you for a wonderful glimpse at Christmas. I could almost feel the excitement you had as a child.

Lady,

Your poem reminded me of our family tradition. On Christmas Eve our family would always go to the children's mass at our church and at communion time the children would march to the altar singing "happy brithday" and carrying a birthday cake. My children and I still go to this mass on Christmas eve. It serves well to remind children and adults as well the true meaning of the day.  Wonderful job.

Best

Beth,
This is a very beautiful rehearsal of Blessed Christmas past- the stuff fond memories & close family ties are made of.
Thank you for taking the time to share these cherished memories with us.  Hope this Christmas also is touched by it's own specialness.   David

I can still remember family Christmases just like this... and what a warm feeling. Family traditions are so much a part of this holiday, no matter what they are. Dont let go of them. This poem was beautiful and heartwarming.

Beth,
What wonderful Christmas memories! A Christmas pointing to the true reason for our celebration, anything less resembles some pagan custom or tradition! Thanks for keeping Christ in Christmas!
