Two weeks ago my mother had open heart surgery. We didn't even know she had any health problems, so it was quite a shock. The whole ordeal really opened my eyes to whats really important in life.

We often take for granted
the ones we hold so dear.
Nary a thought enters the mind
of things we come to fear.

Too little quality time
is spent doing things worthwhile.
Little things that mean a lot to others
which bring them joy and smiles.

Then one day comes a cry for help;
you're frightened beyond belief.
The flashing lights and sirens
stab your heart - there is no relief.

You wait for hours unknowing
of the outcome you have to face.
Praying and praying to God above
to hold you in His grace.

You're told open heart surgery
is the only course to take.
A triple bypass will fix the body's organ
which is about to break.

The surgeon comes to bring the news
of the outcome of his task.
Tears of joy fill your eyes;
God granted the prayer you asked.

You've learned a valuable lesson
through this terrible ordeal.
You've been given a second chance
to show your loved one how you really feel.

Sas, this is a beautiful tribute to your love for her...very nice and an excellent reminder for all of us...take nothing or no one for granted, as it is all fragile and can be lost in a moments passing...
oh how well I know...
take care, janet marie

...there are places inside all our souls...
that have never been touched...
there are places inside our hearts...
that need to be loved this much...

Sasikat, I will be praying for your mother, as I pray for all our pain (and joys!) in The Corner Pub!

What a wonderful poem to remind us life can be taken without warning.  Praise the Lord for his grace!

About 3 weeks ago, I became a grandma.  My little Lauren Elizabeth is in heaven now.  I hope to have your courage to write about a difficult subject as you have.

Very well written.  Keep posting!

Wow...
What more can I add to what everyone else already said? I agree with all of them, especially Janet!   You've got a heart far bigger than mine, that's for sure...

I'll be praying for your mom too!
I wonder if prayers from dragons are worth less than humans'...or if they're all the same? I hope it's the latter!

How very often we don't see the value of someone or something until we are put in this kind of a situation or worse.  It's very scarey.  Your poem shows how you obviously love your mother very much.  I enjoy reading all of your poems and look forward to more.  I hope your mother know the love you have for her.  God bless.

Sasikat, an interesting poem about Carpe Diem...I hope your mother is doing well and you as well.  8)  --Jamie

"I know I should have told you
But I was so afraid you'd leave
And now there's nothing left to say
Well nothing that you'd believe
I never meant to hurt you
With the things I couldn't say
I promise you tomorrow
While denying you today..."
