The seagull perched upon the cliff
The rabbit by his side
‘I could on the wind just drift
And on the foaming ride’

The rabbit looked adoringly
Upon this great grey bird
He just sat there boringly
And swallowed every word

‘You see dear rabbit listen hard
I am a graceful thing
And for me it isn’t hard
To stop my squawk and sing’

The rabbit he just sat there still
His ears flopped down his neck
And if he tried to answer back
He’d receive a spiteful peck

And then a day in April dawned
The wind was blowing hard
The seagull riding thermals yawned
Being clever to his pard

And then a squall brought the seagull down
And span him to the beach
A broken wing a bleeding crown
Just flapping out of reach

The rabbit looked on horrified
‘Cuase he liked him just the same
If he didn’t dash he would have died
He looked so sad and lame

The rabbit set a blinding pace
To his friend the Cormorants lair
Explained to him the seagulls grace
And his magic in the air

The Cormorant liked the rabbit much
He was so sleek and fast
He couldn’t refuse to help his friend
So the bird was saved at last

A seagull perched upon a cliff
With a rabbit in the sun
‘I know I fly so gracefully
But what’s it like to run?

At the end of this the hairs on the back of my neck rose and I got a shiver down my spine - I loved it, especially the last line. Beautifully written Jon. A very lovely fable created by you here.

Wow, Jon!! Beautiful job!   I don't think I could've written a better story.   Excellent poem, as usual!

Jon; This is superbly written fable! Wow!
What a read! I love it. ellie
