To live this life is what I choose,
Though the painful memories I'd like to lose.
This beaten path many times I'll walk,
With every step watching the clock.
Most of my pain I left in the past,
But these bitter sorrows seem to last.
How can I free my self of this pain?
And what, in the end, will I have to gain?
A life less of pain and sorrow there'll be,
The soul left with agony now will be free.
Happiness and confidence, this I'll crave,
No chains or burdens, no longer a slave.
This soul of mine now free to roam,
It took some time but has found a home.
My place of resinence I guess I'd say,
Many hardships endured along the way.
Each a character builder, so I am told,
A strength within me I now behold.
The strength of a soul has a price to bear,
This newfound wisdom, I must share.
Looking around, what will I see?
Nothing much, it is only me.
But being so fortunate, yes I have been,
The strength I possess is a much greater win.
So looking back on this life filled with pain,
Remembering with passion the soul I did gain!

Oh, I really like this! May I use it as my motto poem?

This poem touched me in a personal way.  I love the ending - the overcoming of the trials and tribulations and becoming strong because of (or dispite) them.

a good friend once told me, "pray for trials", while i was yet within a trial or 2 in my life..i didnt get it then, thought he was a little touched....!  but it makes sense..if it werent for the trials, the pains, we wouldnt know how to truly appreciate the good times

really enjoyed this poem..great writing

callie, lakewalker, childomine, Jon, dgvarner,

It is always better coming from the heart. In my past trials I have become one tough cookie!!! I must agree that the trials we overcome make us who we are, and a much stronger person. I was once told that God never gives us more than we can handle. Not that I'm a religous person, but I do believe this to be true. Thanks to all of you for your kind words.
