Could Be Anywhere...

Nightmares?

Whispers became insistent
awakened at three in the morn
bolt upright, shaking, sweating.
Trembling hand lighting cigarette
deadly glow revealing obscure faces
memories of a distant tomorrow.

Sucking sweet death deep inside
the glow like quivering campfire
pale illumination, half remembered.
Whispering, taking on form and face
haunted by those once known, perhaps
bizarre predictions, almost remembered.

The world sleeps, unbeknownst
as poet chats, dances with tomorrow
yesterday reinforced, even testifies.
Silent party with those left behind
wondering questions filling the years
gifting memories of future yet to come.

Laughing out loud to dark emptiness
mind filled with phantoms, demanding attention
shaking hand drawing death nigh, illuminates.
Suspecting this just might be insanity
talking to ghosts who whisper insomnia
taking notes on tomorrow’s tomorrow.

bleeding...

"Tis ink coming
from his arm,
Captain!"

oh, this is wonderful!  The poet's world that we walk in, a great description.  I would not trade this world of words for anything, even when people are looking at me strangely when I'm wandering around in a daze, because once again I was pulled out of bed at 3:30 in the wee hours of the morn to write the words that are screaming to be born.  I'll be coming back to this beauty many, many times.

Something doesn't have to be upbeat to be something truly great...like this! It's so vivid, it's almost scary...the mark of a good (or great) poet!
