What a delightful night and day
Was spent
Among friends..

At the slumber party
There was no one there in her teens
Or even in the in-betweens
Pillow packing mamas
Tossed blankets and pillows
Upon the floor
And overnight bags in corners
As visions of smiles
Decended upon wrinkle laden faces

Then to a pickup
We all decended
Bathing suits and towels in hand
For a ride to the swimming pool
Just across the way
Where some of us swam
And others dangeled
Their toes
Keeping cool
Until darkness fell

Later we shared
A delicious spread
Of festive foods
We baby boomers and grannies
Golden agers, and widow ladies
Big mama's
We all looked great
In our "pajamies"

Some spread pallets on the floor
All the beds in the house were taken
As the lights went out
Giggling old ladies
"In their teens"
Said goodnight, laying down to dream.

It was a slumber party
Like no other
One white haired lady
Remarked
It was the first "slumber party"
She had ever attended
Other's said it was even
Better than the ones remembered
From their teens.

It was one I will never forget
Twas a special treat for me
That in the year "2000"
We, "with it sisters"
Could have so much fun
Sharing the fabric of our lives
Minus the quilting frame

Shhh...be quite, lights out
No more laughing..

Oh, SeptSong~
This wonderful event has been a tradition
with my graduating class for each reunion.
(The same 'high school guys' tried to crash it last time !)
Oh, how we laughed !
Some things just never change !

It is sooooooooooooo much fun !
Better for the aging ...
more laughter for the hearts !

Your poem was a delightful remembrance !

Sounds like you all had a terrific time. Your
poem described it so well that I almost felt like I was there enjoying the whole thing too! Great fun and terrific poem! Love, Ellie

Summers haunting melody
that awakens
the butterflies,
calling them to join
the dance
in their silent song
of praise to God.
