The tiger in the cage
gazes sadly at the freedom
On the other side.
It's so close,
Yet so out of reach.

His eyes are dull and lifeless
His scarred shoulders sag, his whiskers droop
As the man with the whip
Laughs cruelly
And snaps the whip once more.

The great animal
The magnificent cat of the jungle
Lays his great striped head on the concrete floor.
His eyes close, a single tear makes its way
down his cheek.

His heartbeat slows.
His breathing stops.
A cool breeze blows
Ruffling the black and orange fur.
Freedom.

sigh...this is pretty sad, even more so because I used to know a 'tiger' like that...

You do a great job of packing emotion in your words, Foxpaw!   Sad, but still beautiful.

And congrats on your first post! I'm going to have to come up with a welcome poem for you! lol

hey foxpaw    great first post!..very sad tho..     i hate to see those wonderful beasts in small cages..at least they should have a big place to roam around with grass and trees..even if they are in a zoo...

hope to see more of your writing!
