Small marble Angels with their neckletts of stone
Lay hand in hand………..love chilled to the bone
Chiselled grey faces their glance cast above
Chanting cold prayers to their heaven with love

Alabaster capes ….In layered….Icy rows
Cold granite stockings …cover their toes
A mothers lost stare from eyes clouded white
On her baby in stone …who’d passed in the night

Cherubs and cherubim……frozen in pose
Dark leaden boxes around them they close
A bright painted Eagle to laden to fly
Wings spread out wide in its last lonely cry

Blank gargoyle grimace of laughter and mirth
Clings to the pillar in the first throws of birth
Symbols of secrets with dark sacred vowel
Trying to escape this life’s…….. final scowl

The mossy green ceiling with life from above
Trickles clear water across the wings of a dove
I feel as I sit in this howling ……crypt room
The last cold dark squeeze…………….
………………From an old dead mans tomb

For some reason this reminds me of the horror of Pompeii. I hate seeing pictures of that,it draws me in and breaks my heart.Likewise with your poem.It was extremely well written,it really drew me in!!

A nice icy coolness about this Jon. Very refreshing reading it tonight on a very hot evening!

Well created - good use of the hard and cold words to create this chilly atmosphere...

HAunting, sent shivers down my spine. great imagery. really enjoyed this poem.

I light a candle at the tomb of this dead man so that a glimmer of light might slice through the darkness.

You never cease to amaze me Jon.  I hope you realize the talent you have been blessed with.  Your work gets better and better with each new piece. You draw people in, hold them captive with your words and keep them longing for more when it's done.  Excellent, excellent job!!
