Spring Cleaning

Winter's grime clouds each window
Like neglect upon the soul
The blinds have built up dust
As hearts build prejudice

Fingerprints smudge walls and doorways
Like little hurts held from past days
Areas of carpet are beaten down
Like unforgiveness carried around

Piles of unread books and magazines
Remind me of the good intentions and dreams
Unseen dirt packed on the the frig coils
Like secret thoughts, cause many spoils

Old medications left on the shelves
As useless as our ways to better ourselves
Wood furniture, tacky, with built up wax
Like opinions and excuses hide bare facts

Heavy winterwear to be stored away
Like doubts and fears that so often plague
Spiderwebs and nests in the basement
Akin to threads of regrets and resentment

Dingy light fixtures attracting dust
Obscure brightness like selfcenteredness.
As I vacuum, wash, sort and clean
I'll pray to confess all sin within me.

Doing my cleaning this spring
I'll scour my soul to find everything
For as much as I like a home fresh and clean
It's my soul, Christ died to redeem.

Dear Sandgrain; I love the analogy, depth and soul searching beauty of this wonderful poem! Very inspirational and so insightful. We all need a good spring cleaning! I know that I do! Jesus is our personal soul cleaner. Hallelujah! Thanks so much . Ellie

Best spring cleaning I ever envisioned! The kind that won't bring on an attack of sneezing!

You've told a great story here, and done so in metaphorical style... Nice job..

Sounds like a really dirty house..haha j/k Mom!

Never thought of it this way, but I bet we all have those cobwebs and dirt piles that need cleaned out of our spirit. I know I do.

Thanks for such great analogies!

Sandgrain - What a wonderful poem, it sure puts a whole new spin on spring cleaning.  I feel as though this year it may be a little less difficult, as I will be working on cleaning this soul of mine as I wash the windows and clear the cobwebs.  Thanks so much for this..... Bonnie

SandGrain~
What I like best about spring-cleaning
is finding things I 'hid' in a place
I'd be sure to remember - and didn't !

This was very pleasant to read.
Maids-R-Us .. going to work on that
soul myself !
Thank you for this delightful read.

ellie, my soul search will be in the forefront as I work to brighten the homefront.
Septsong, No sneezes, but sadness when traces of these sins are dredged up.
Nan, your kind comment really boosts my enthusiasm.  Hopefully, one day I'll partake of your generous teaching expertice.
WhtDove, wanna help me clean it?  The house, that is.
Bonnie, I've so much house cleaning to do, I should be able to find every stain on my soul
Marge- Finding forgotten, hidden things is great in housecleaning but I always wonder  how I could've been so blind to the like on my soul.
Thank you all for reading and responding.

Hi Sandgrain,  I really enjoyed this poem.
The analogy with spring cleaning verses soul cleaning.  Great thought, good read. Marcy

the very words of this poem convict even myself. how true it is of the clutter we store up in our hearts, the dwelling place of the holy spirit. surely we could all stand to renovate a little. i think you did a wonderful job on this work. may god bless you.

Thanks for the kind responses, Marcy, David and son of man.  I've been working on both these cleaning chores.  Hopefully, the clean heart will last longer than the clean home does.
