Oh Lord, Awaken our hearts
Open our eyes
Please, before it's too late
Before the next fate
Of a child

Young minds want to travel
On the wings of the gods
They think they are invincible
Bullets, they can dodge

They know not
They see not
They feel not
numb in the conditions
How can they not rise above
By believing in things
That have no meaning

To their hell
This is a success
They receive no rest
We sleep
With one eye open
They dream the dream
The nightmare
The Souless journey
Because it is easy
It is their only escape

Our children
Killing children
With the same hands
That create with crayons
That become gooey with candy

That skip rope
And swing at a ball
And we wonder why
These things happen at all

Is it the freefall
Of their souls
As we sit upon
Our highest point of view
Our angels have lost their wings?

I feel in my heart
That this great nation
Has simply fallen
From grace
A handfull rejoice
The rest are alarmed
Why is it so hard
To understand?
That which kills
Is already dead
Before they ever
Pick up and bear arms

Before they ever think
before they ever
even get the chance to feel
What your great love is
You've got the whole world
In your hands
And we are literally
Casting our children
From your palms
Making room for ourselves
And our weapons

There is little room
For children
And our armory
Of killing machines
And God knows
We would never part with them

Aim high, Oh America
And use the sights and scopes
And fire at will
Towards heaven
Common sense should tell us
That bullets will never
Reach the gates
They are the lead weights
That will send us
Straight back in raining fashion
Towards hell

And our children
Know not
To come in out of the rain

REGINA,
this poem is a soul chilling wake up call so timely and relevant to out cast away society and time.  It presents a very painful message--but painful messages are needed to jolt us back to reality and corrective action!
Thank you for boldy speaking it for us,
           David

Dearest Regina; I am stunned by the horror of the truth you have written here. This poem should be posted in every school across America. The bottom line for each of us personally, is to cherish the children, be they our own, and all the little ones that God sends in our path.
I've missed you!!! So good to have you back.
Love and hugs, Ellie< !signature-->

Regina, if you don't mind I'd like to forward this poem to a friend of mine. She is doing a walk for these children. Had something posted in Announcements on it, and emailed me looking for people to write poems about it.  I think she would really love this! Here is the link to what she posted.

I really hope you would consider this as help for those children. A way of reaching out through your words.

Wow, Regina, from the depth of the soul. This
is remarkably written with inner wisdom and truth. God continue to have mercy on us, as we pray for our children and America. Marcy
