THE COVETOUS SCHEME

I,Judas Iscariot
Know you don't want to listen to me,
But maybe you should just hear me out
Unless my same fate, you will see.

At one time I had it going
As an Apostle, and one of the guys,
That Jesus especially had chosen
By His choice even I was surprised!

I wasn't much like the others
Like Peter, so gushy with his love,
I thought of myself as a practical guy
"Best of both worlds," what was I thinking of?

For I e'er had a thing for riches
And I thought this was working out well,
Since I was trusted with the group's money
If I skimmed off the top, who could tell?

But this Jesus, who came from Nazareth
Was more powerful than I had thought,
His teachings were just so awesome
And oh what mighty wonders He wrought!

And like He taught us, His disciples
"Two masters, you just can not serve,"
Though toward Him I was being drawn
Yet my greediness caused me to swerve.

Our leaders, who by Him felt threatened
In desperation, they were making a deal,
A reward offered for His capture
So that finally His fate could be sealed.

It seemed as a good 'a time as any
For me to end my unholy charade,
I'd be free again, just to be me
And for my trouble, in Silver, I'd be paid.

So I covenanted with those dark plotters
I would give them a sign when I did this,
Posing as one of his lowly disciples
I would approach Him and give Him a kiss.

With the Passover now upon us
I knew I must act out my part,
Though I thought my intentions well hidden
Somehow Jesus could read my dark heart!

[Due to the extended length of this poem, I have
opted to continue it, in my next submission as
I, Judas Iscariot [Part Two]  ]

David; I am astounded at how you have so accurately put this to poetic form. I read on...

Very nice protrayl of Judas, I like the way you are using first person, shows his how he thinking may have lead to his decisions.
