The little girl was standing there, looking so lost and alone
When I took her hand she simply smiled, and asked me to take her home.
Once there I asked her how she was, she looked so frightened and sad
And as her eyes filled up with tears, she told me she felt bad.
Seemed everyone had left her, and no one even cared
She was left to survive all by herself, Oh God she was so scared.
As her life unfolded in front of me, the heaviness grew in my heart
She needed much more than I could give, this kid was falling apart.
So I gathered her into my open arms, and gently stroked her hair
Rocking slowly back and forth, I told her I'd always be there.
She held on a little tighter, but there was still no trust in her eyes
For those she'd counted on before, had left without goodbyes.
When she finally started talking, she struggled with what to say
Afraid that she was bothering me, afraid...I'd walk away.
I had to make her understand, that I wasn't letting go
So I sat her down beside me, and said what she needed to know.
I told her she was the little me, and I knew her inside out
I knew her fears and weaknesses, along with all her doubt.
I told her I knew about the guilt, she'd carried around inside
And all the heartache hurting her, and that I knew how hard she'd tried.
The more I talked, the deeper her stare, as she gazed into my eyes
And I knew she was finally getting - some answers to all of her whys.
So the door at long last was open, for both the child and I
Now all that is left for us to do, is strengthen our new found ties.
You have brought me back to me Lord, and the child and I both know
If it wasn't for Your love for us, she would never have learned to grow.

Dearest Bonnie, You have quite a talent for putting feelings in type. This really touched me as does most everthing that you write.
You have such a tender, loving heart, it clearly comes through in this one.
God Bless
Marcy

Dearest Bonnie; I loved this poem so much.I feel so close in spirit to you in this. I had to go through finding my liitle girl within and loving her and asking Jesus to heal us both. It sounds like we grew up in the same house too! Hey, Sis!  Love you, Ellie

It's amazing how confessing our fears, sins, heartaches and longings opens us up for others to love while touching others deep wounds with love.  No wonder we're told to confess our sins one onto another, it forms bridges of love.  A beautifully written tender piece.

First things first! I love this poem!

I tried to contact you by email, and you don't have yours showing, and wasn't able to access the page needed to retrieve it.  So I have to post this here. This is taken from this forums guidelines...

Multiple Posts

While we have multiple forums for your use, we strongly discourage multiple posts - please select the forum most appropriate for your work and post it there and only there. Like everything in life, our resources are limited and double-posts limit them even further. The only exception to this, and it's an important one, is work originally posted in one of our Workshops. We consider those to be "works-in-progress" and it is completely acceptable - and encouraged - that you post the final result in one of our general forums. In a similar vein, if you make substantial revisions to any of your poetry please feel free to post the revision. Our intent is never to discourage you from posting, but only to stretch our resources as far as possible.

I would like to add, that in current running forums like open if you post a poem like this you can contact a moderator to have it moved to here. BUT, we would discourage posting in a current forum (#6) and here in spiritual or another forum at the same time. You could have it moved if you'd like to.

If you have anything from the archived forums, say forum #1-5, that can be reposted into a current forum.

If you have any questions please feel free to email me at WhtDove377@aol.com

Dear Bonnie...I hugged the child inside of me because of this. Without the encouragement and example of others we too often forget. I'm so glad I read this today! Your words have become one of my treasures!
Sincerely,
Rwood
