ENVOY

This straight and narrow road has no detours,
I must not ever bypass, safely,
the seething, smelly slums,
nor, scornfully, the marble mansions,
I must not once forget
it's You, who sent me.

To make Your message cut through icy smiles
in walnut-panelled boardrooms,
through mockery, profanities,
amid the clatter of assembly lines,
all that, for Him who sent me?

So, am I willing and prepared
to walk where You would walk,
to talk like You would talk,
and even weep when You would weep?
Oh, Christ, I'll need Your help!

I do not have, and never will,
the wisdom of King Solomon,
the courage of young David,
the faith of John the Baptist,
Yet, I shall go wherever You send me!

Willem,
This a very challenging poem that cuts to the chase--If we are to walk the straight & narrow, we must go where Jesus send, and live what Jesus taught & lived-with the courage, strength & grace which He gives foir us to do so.  It is not a competition--it is a personal commitment!
You done well by giving us such an invigorating wake up call.  Thank you, David

Willem; The thought that came to me was, "your will be done, not mine". To me, the bravest prayer of all, and that's what your poem shouts.....Courage! Wow!

Ah, but the Gift of Faith you do have!  Excellent, that's what He wants from us. For us to do His will not ours! Love it!

Thank you for your encouraging remarks and clear insight into the problems we all face trying to follow in the footsteps of Jesus.
No, I haven't been a missionary, but I was always vitally interested in promoting goodwill and Christian love between people whose mutual interests seemed to be at odds. I was often a volunteer for the job of "ombudsman" (mediator) between a company's management and its employees. In few other tasks have I so strongly felt the need for daily guidance by the Holy Spirit.
So that's wat prompted me to write this
poem for some young people who were setting
out on a rebuilding and outreach trip to an
area that seemed to really need it.
