Catbird! Tom giggles, with obvious glee,
clip-clopping, he circles the dogwood tree
as the small gray bird mews it’s music and preens
for a three year old tot in tiny blue jeans.

September sizzles with sights and sounds,
a marvelous morning of noise abounds
each bleep, every buzz, is heard with joy
while I wander the woods with my little boy.

Sunlight shimmies off the rainbow fish
in a silver stream where they splash and splish,
fat toads croak to my small one’s delight
and slip from his clutch to hop out of sight.

Autumn crackles underfoot on the road,
green grass ripples, flowers explode
Every honk, every hiss cannot be ignored
not a cluck or a quack can be left unexplored.

But soon, the blue in the sky will shatter,
clatter with many more serious matters,
Innocence bright, on this day will blur,
United hearts will pound, unsure

when thunder quakes in a distant land
and shakes the earth on which we stand,
the crashing, the clashing, the banging, the boom
will rumble with fears of unknown doom.

For now though, we hear only pleasant noise,
God’s gift to mommies and their little boys,
a lovely stroll in mid-September,
a morning of peace that we’ll always remember.

Very nice poem.  I hope your little boy never gets any closer to such a catastrophe.  Joyce

Very nicely done. And I echo Joyce's thoughts. I hope your son never gets any closer to tragedy.

(big hugggsssssss) Oh Deborah, I shed a tear reading this because you are such a loving person for your son and so many and I too wish for him to be safe always and for this beauty of innocence to always remain inside him! (sigh) God Bless You, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Deborah, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

Romy:  I loved your poem.  It captures both sides of the coin.  The innoceence and beauty of an autumn day with your child, as well as the horror of what happened on 9/11.
Very well done.
