He Walked into the Room

He walked into the room and stood before us all
This man with the piercing eyes, standing so tall
He opened the Book and turned the page
He began to speak, people listened from evey age

Do you know where you will face eternity, he asked
People shuffled feet and hid behind their masks
Can you say, “I know I will go to heaven when I die”
Or is it your good works on which you rely

Perhaps you think,  “I go to Church every week”
Is it not my voice the Choir director doth seek
I’ve been a Church member since I was a child
I’ve lived a good life, and never once was I wild

My parents helped to establish this Church
My uncle built and designed the pulpit from birch
Aunt Susie made the curtains for the ladies’ room
That cross on the wall is a family heirloom

If you have similar thoughts of each and every merit
You think because of this, heaven you will inherit
Think again my friend, it will never be enough
All our works are just so much fluff

Salvation is free, but it didn’t come cheap
Jesus, God's Son, died; Mary, in grief, did weep
He paid the price for sin for you and me
From sin’s consequences, we can be set free

You can choose to receive this wonderful gift
Or reject, and out into a Godless eternity drift
You can choose to walk through heaven’s doors
Or you can reject, and live in torment forevermore

Well said.  Our good works will not save us.  Thanks Wanda.  Joyce

Joyce; Yes, our salvation is certainly not based upon good works.  We are blessed that it is a free gift, but it was extremely expensive for our Lord.  Thank you for your reply to this poem.  Wanda
