My Father

There is a man who stands tall to me
even though he stood five foot three
He had twinkly eyes of blue, hair of gray
"I’m fair to meddlin” was what he’d say

He loved the Lord; he walked in His way
He’d study God’s Word, and would often pray
Life was sometimes difficult and sad for him
He’d smile, and I’d hear him whistle a hymn

How he loved the old hymn called “One Day”
It was always his request for the pianist to play
When God called him home four years ago
it was played; he would have loved that I know

What a rich heritage of faith he left for me
He always lived what he professed to believe
It is true my father could talk the talk
but the blessed truth is, he also walked the walk

I think of my children who are following me
What is there in my life for them to see
When the Lord calls me home one day
Will they remember I took time to pray

I hope they remember I shared Christ with them
and taught them to live their lives for Him
There is no wealth here on earth greater then
the riches of being a heavenly citizen

I love your poem about your Dad.  I was blessed with a wonderful Daddy and he has been gone these many years but I still think of him with longing.  I have written lots of poems about him too. You'll find him in "No work On Sunday" further down on this page. Love, Joyce

Joyce; We were truly blessed to have a wonderful Daddy.  I miss my Father too, but when I think of him in heaven, I have to smile.  One day I will see him again. Thank you for your reply to this poem.  I will be sure to look for your poem and read it.  Wanda

Wanda:  Really fine tribute to your father. My dad too, was a wonderful man. He died young of cancer and I miss him every day!
Wonderful memories though.

Trillium; I know what you mean when you say you miss your father every day.  But, that is only temporary, thank the good Lord.  Thank you so much for your reply.  Wanda

Karen; You will probably see several poems about my Daddy.  We had a special relationship that I know was a blessing from the Lord.  Oh, that all children could be blessed as I was.  Thank you sweet lady for your comments on this poem that is so near to my heart.  Wanda

if you lead in prayer
your children will learn His way
set their minds on Him
they will bless your memory
and teach their children in turn

Fool, said my Muse to me, look in thy heart and write.

Interloper; I certainly agree with what you have written.  Raising children is an awesome task.  Believers do not raise their children alone; they are blessed to have the help of the Lord.  A child needs to see how important the Lord is to the parent.  Does the parent depend on the Lord, and commit their days and ways to the Lord?  Has the child seen in the parent a relationship with the Lord really works?  Again, example is so important.  Thank you for your input on this.  Wanda
