This is a piece of writing I came across in the first little pages of a Gideon's pocket sized
New Testament.  I don't know that it was written to be "poetry" but it is unarguably poetic.  The line
divisions I have created myself because it was written like prose with divisions falling wherever
the page width dictated.  Now that I think about it maybe it is a Prose-Poem.  Anyway I hope you enjoy.
To me it is a profound little piece of craftmanship written with grace and august beauty, yet sobering
in its truth.  If any of you are familiar with it and know who the writer was, let me know @
stedojo@yahoo.com
Not knowing where it came from, if it is entire or just a piece, or really anything about it, I have
called it Gideon's Torch since it is in this Gideon's bible.  How fitting since it speaks of the bible
which is "A Lamp unto our feet and a Light unto our Path."

The Bible contains
the mind of God, the state of man,
the way of salvation, the doom of sinners,
and the happiness
of believers.

It's doctrines are holy,
it's precepts are binding,
it's histories are true, and
it's decisions are
immutable.

Read it to be safe
and practice it
to be holy.
It contains light to direct you,
food to support you, and comfort
to cheer you.

It is the traveller's map,
the pilgrim's staff,
the pilot's compass,
the soldier's sword,
and the Christian's charter.

Here Paradise is restored,
Heaven opened
and the gates of hell
disclosed.

CHRIST
is it's grand subject,
our good
the design, and the glory
of God
its end.

It should fill the memory,
rule the heart
and guide the feet.
Read it slowly
frequently, and
prayerfully.

It is a mine of wealth,
a paradise of glory,
and a river
of pleasure.
It is given you in life,
will be opened at the judgement,
and be remembered
forever.

It involves the highest responsibility,
will reward the greatest labor,
and will condemn all who trifle
with its sacred contents.

I posted the very same thing from that bible not long ago. As I found it just as impacting as you did. Those words really hit home in truth. Whoever wrote it, certainly wrote some profound meaning within their words.

I read this and I am blessed... Thank you for sharing.  There is Much Truth to these words.  Next time I stay at a hotel, I will need to check it out.   Bob <><

Stephanos, there are two things that I would like to thank you for: first, for posting... and second, for giving credit to the anonymous author.

How fitting that you found a place to share wondrous words.

Thank you!
