THE SHOE BOX IN THE CLOSET

Memories are gifts from God
to lighten your pathway
tokens of the love shared and given
by you and others each and everyday

Things tucked away and forgotten
till just the right time
then an ocean of happiness floods you
as your eyes gaze upon past signs

Today this happened to me
as I had spring cleaning to do
I started with the closets
one by one each I went through

In the last one left
my eyes looked up to the top shelf
the shoe box in the closet I saw
made me stop everything else

I sat on the bed in my room
placed the shoe box on my lap
opened the lid and I took a journey
through the years that had elapsed

First there was a dried out rose
that I took from mom's grave
smiling as I could see her in Heaven
so thankful she told me Jesus saves

Next there was a tiny handprint
done on a christmas card
my child's little fingers painted
I love u mommy with all my heart

Underneath the handprint
was a locket shinning bright
I remembered when my husband gave it
it was on our wedding night

A picture old and faded
was the next thing that I found
me and my best friend smiling and giggling
Lord I wonder if she is still around

Little shells from the ocean beach
in the bottom of the box laid
letting me recall the spiritual journeys taken there
thats were my love for Christ was made

As I placed the lid on the box
my tears I brushed away
happiness and joy flooded over my heart
for the treasured memories I found today

Yes memories of such love and care
that were granted to me in my life
knowing that they were all given to me
through the grace of Jesus Christ

So hold onto your memories
tuck them away in a safe place
then the Lord will know the right time
for them to bring a loving smile to your face
