Nifty Fifties ...
~Marge Tindal~ 1999

Love Me Tender
and Johnny Be Good.
Songs from the days
of my teenhood.

I hear them and I rock.
I hear them and I roll.
They are the very music
that rocks my soul.

The jitterbug, the stroll,
the bop to the beat.
The very best music's
got me tapping my feet.

Grab your partner,
get out on the floor.
Rock n' Roll music
is alive once more.

Platters spinning
in my head.
It is true
Rock and Roll is not dead.

Hibernating,
waiting...
a return to the beat ...
dancing, dancing ...
rhythm in my feet.

'I Found My Thrill
On Blueberry Hill' ...
in the backseat of a Chevrolet.
The music blaring on the radio ...
taking our cares away.

'Great Balls Of Fire',
We could 'Rock Around The Clock.'
Fight 'The Battle Of New Orleans.'
Or do 'The Jailhouse Rock.'

We were 'Juvenile Delinquents',
what can we say....
We 'Wore An Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie
Yellow Polka Dot Bikini'
while 'Dancing The Night Away.'

I'd return in a heartbeat
to the days of old.
Through the music
our stories were told.

oooow, eee, oooo-ah-ah,
ting, tang, walla-walla
Bing-bang....
I remember the same.

Chantilly Lace,
Charlie Brown,
Poison Ivy,
Kathy's Clown.

Then along came Jones,
and Ricky Nelson too,
There was also a Teen Angel,
and dinga dong ding Blue Moon.

Patches lived down by the river,
That flowed by the old coal yard,
In old wooden houses, with shutters torn down,
In old Shanty Town.....

Purple People eaters,
Splish-splashin in the tub,
Let me in "Wee-Oooh"
Potion number nine for love...

A duck tail kinda haircut,
Cuban healed boots,
Skin tight blue jeans-switch blade knives,
and a soda fountain too.

Sometimes our gang had rumbles,
With chains and clubs and fists
When the Lion slept in the mighty jungle,
We'd cruise along the strip.

I miss those care-less, care-free days,
And black and white TV,
Still had my parents and all my friends,
All that's left are memories......

Marge, This was grand....made me remember times past.....

This likes me much - I did a tribute some Forums back to Neil Diamond - you would probably like it...

Bal and Toe are fighting again,
While Toerag sits with a subtle grin,
All songs of past they sing its true,
And date themselves and me too.

I was there too
in those good old days
twisting twisting
the night away

Love me tender
was the only way
I wanted all my
days to stay

Let me go lover
Sincerely, hard to get
this unchained melody
plays within me yet

Love is a many splendered thing
and I'll still bet
that what ever lola wants
lola gets.

Thanks Marge for
the moments to remember.

You've all just 'Put Another Nickle In ... In The Nicklelodean'
Watcher, Toe, Sunshine, Suthern, Hoot, Balladeer, RSEvans and Marti .... seems like the music plays for all of us.
Anybody for a sock hop?

*L* it's so funny to read this poem, because my financé's father is in his fifties and just last week he was listening to his records and singing and dancing, if only you could have seen him you would know why I am still laughing...hehehehe Great one!

The music from this era,
Balladeer can't appreciate,
"That rock and roll is evil,
It makes one horny and irate."

His music tastes are different,
His dance steps are not the same,
He still does the Fox Trot,
And the Charleston was his "game."

ROFL... (nodding) You're right, Toe... that music that brings back smiles to many of us (and puzzled looks from the young whipper-snappers *G*) probably does bring a groan from the old geezers. *G* (Not that I'd ever call 'Deer an ole geezer. LOL. Not to his face. *G*)

Bugs, I would't forget the bunny hop for anything. We could all join in. And you could lead the pack.
