Listen To The Children
~Marge Tindal~ 1999

I'm writing this to you,
because I know you care.
Please pass it on to loved ones.
Send it everywhere.

If we only help one child
to have a better childhood memory,
then as earth angels we have succeeded ...
and what a blessing that would be.

For Jesus so loved the children,
that He bade us to treat them well.
And those among us who don't ...
can just go straight to hell.

But sometimes it seems God's busy ...
and He needs the earth angels He's sent.
So it's up to you and me,my friend,
to be there when He can't.

Somewhere in your life,
or in the life of a friend ...
Is a child whose being mistreated,
and we CAN make it end!

Be the watchful eyes of the Master.
Be a friend to a child somewhere.
For we must help to watch them,
when they think there's no one there.

Friends, listen to the children.
Hear their story well.
Look beyond their stories
to see if monsters dwell.

That bruise, that cut
that little black eye ...
Ask how it happened,
and 'listen' to the 'why'.

Listen to the children
and what they have to say.
'Listen' to the 'look'
as they shyly back away.

Children cannot hide
what we surely see ....
We must be their voice
to end the misery.

Speak up for the child
whose voice is too small.
Help end the abuse
for once and for all.

You will surely be rewarded,
and someday wear heavenly wings.
Be here on earth for the children,
they are such precious things.

A beautiful appeal - that deserves to be listened to. There are many poems here centering on stopping injustice - it gladdens my heart to come here. Thankyou for this Marge.

Nice job Margie...and so true...Brings back some not so great memories or things I've seen and been involved with..and sometimes we don't think of "ALL" the children in misery. We often think of "children" as the very young...but, there are children in their teens also that are abused, taken advantage of, and neglected......I have a real problem with child abuse...and also have a problem with a temper and sticking my nose into situations that I may or may not should....(and you can tell by the way my nose is shaped too).....Your poem has a great message, and sadly, so many kids will get nothing more for Christmas than more abuse.

Your words are true Marge, but I would go a little further and say a cry from a child may not even look like a request for help. A simple request may be motivated by the unthinkable!

It took a kind and caring soul to write this, Marge, and you did it well.

Severn - Thank you. It gladdens my heart to read your kind words.
Toe - Yes, all sizes, all ages are affected.
We MUST be the eyes for them all !
Hoot - No thanks needed ... it's a project I take on with a fervor.
Lynn - Thank you. So glad you read it.
Suthern - Thanks, it's little enough to do.
OhMe - We just have to be aware of the sometimes subtle changes ... and follow through on hunches.
Elizabeth - Thank you, friend. I've worked with children most of my life ... and what a joy they are. It is with heavy heart that I discover the ~secrets~ some of them live with. And joy when they can be helped.
Balladeer - Guilty as charged ... I do have those qualities ... and my heart will continue to lead me to ~Listen To The Children~ ... Thank you.
RainbowGirl - You know I appreciate that.
And bless the children.

I agree with this. Children are the possibly the most passionate of all...

The world is their oyster. And what kind of world would it be if for every child their pearl be destroyed? Washed away by the angry waves of the sea.... All that's asked is to help retrive those washed away pearls, before they are lost forever beneath the ocean floor.

Joy14 - Thank you.
It happens everyday,
the pearl is stripped away.
But we can stop the harvest
of the ~little pearls~
by watching, speaking out
and letting our hearts
get involved.
Wouldn't it be wonderful
if there was a group that
guarded our children as
valiantly as they do the whales,
the scrub blue jays, the wolves,
the seals and the other endangered animal causes.
I hope we never face a time when
our children are placed on the
endangered species list.
