Ahum... I think I will skip this one Nan. No matter how much I love a challange, this seems quite impossible for a not native English person.

I sure would like to answer, but you have to wait till I I've got a bit of a clue what the .... you're talking about

But....I've found this beautiful place where they explain all those weird words.

So let me find out myself first, I'll be back in a minute (I think)

And here I am again.

ONOMATOPOEIA (ahn-uh-mah-tuh-PEE-uh)
Strictly speaking, the formation or use of words which imitate sounds, like whispering, clang and sizzle, but the term is generally expanded to refer to any word whose sound is suggestive of its meaning.
Sidelight: Because sound is an important part of poetry, the use of onomatopoeia is another subtle weapon in the poet's arsenal for the transfer of sense impressions through imagery, as in Keats' "The murmurous haunt of flies on summer eves," in "Ode to a Nightingale."
Sidelight: Though impossible to prove, some philologists (linguistic scientists) believe that all language originated through the onomatopoeic formation of words.

Well, well, well, reading this really helped a lot in understanding

I think you're right Munda, that's a   for us Dutchies, or at least very hard to do.

I sure would like to see one teach Nanniness, sounds a bit like phonetic writing to me.

LOL Titia! Exactly the explanation I found. Even after an explanation from someone who grew up in the States I still think it would take me weeks to write a simple 4 line verse for this assignment. A definite   for me this one!
Perhaps you can think of something a little easier for the Dutch only Nan? After all... you wouldn't want to discriminate us now would you? Hehe Just kidding! Just kidding! JUST KIDDING NAN!! But... since today is my 2nd Birthday here at PIP....

This place is outa control...

All righty then - I seems that I don't need to explain much - Let's use whatever format we want - You're already doing that anyway...

Let's just concentrate on incorporating some onomatopoeia and alliteration

You guys have already gone and consulted the dictionary, so I'm not going to repeat the definition - I'll just toss out some examples - although you've done a fine job already.... so - in no particular order...

snap - drip - tick - tock - whoosh - whistle - giggle - meow - woof - arf - moooooo - neigh - ribbit - splash - pop - zip - zap - zing - squish - splootch? - crackle - splat... ... and I'll think of more...

Alliteration is simply the repetition of beginning sounds in successive syllables...

Peter Piper Picked a Peck of Pickled Peppers - a Peck of Pickled Peppers Peter Piper Picked....

She sells sea shells... Now THAT one incorporates both alliteration AND assonance.... *evil smirk*

Here I am, Margie!  Sorry I'm late.
I was picking apples for MizNanners again.
She likes when I bring her those.

So...MizNanners...can I still come to class?
I left the apples in that pretty basket on
your desk.  I made the basket myself, and I
polished EVERY apple just for you.
If you let me come into class now, I'll even
clean the erasers after class too!
Please...can I, can I, huh??

Margie!  Stop makin' those mean faces at me!
You're just jealous 'cuz MizNanners likes me best!

Hey teach, is it too late to come to class. I was in detention you see, but I promise to be good now (well, so long as you don't catch me necking in the playground. I heard there was some of that going around!!)

If she who dies with the most toys wins, then can I have some toy boys please?

There is a dictionary of onomat.. you know.

It has the largest collection of sounds-like-what-it-is words on the net.
