I held you up on this mighty pedestal
The epitome of what a person should be
"Always striving to do what's right"
But through the surface, no one could see.

But you're just like everyone else
Always trying to save yourself
Just talking of what's right and wrong
And always saying, "I'm by myself"

Dwelling on all that hurts you
Self-pitying yourself into depression
Professing the hero has risen from the ashes
Why not just submit to a confession?

How can you be such a hypocrite?
Drinks and kisses and lies
Of course, when I did it, it's wrong
But you do it, and it's just fine.

Don't tell me circumstances were different
Because they were definitely the same
Neither one had security or commitment
But I still took the punishment and blame

I held you up on this mighty pedestal
The epitome of what a person should be
But it took one act for you to fall
And now, you get absolutely no respect from me.

I really liked this poem. I agree that no one should have respect unless they EARN it.
