   Mommy

Johnny brought a gun to school, He told his friends that it was cool,
and when he pulled the trigger back, it shot with a great crack.
     Mommy, I was a good girl, I did what I was told,
I went to school, I got straight As', I even got the gold!
     But Mommy, when I went to school that day,
I never said goodbye,
I’m sorry Mommy, I had to go,
But Mommy, please don't cry.
     When Johnny shot the gun,
He hit me and another,
and all because Johnny,
Got the gun from his older brother.
     Mommy, please tell Daddy;
That I love him very much,
and please tell Chris; my boyfriend;
that it wasn't just a crush.
     And tell my little sister;
That she is the only now,
And tell my dear sweet Grandmother;
I’ll be waiting for her now,
And tell my wonderful friends;
That they always were the best,
Mommy, I'm not the first,
I’m no better then the rest.
     Mommy, tell my teachers;
I won't show up for class,
And never to forget this,
and please don't let this pass.
     Mommy, why'd it have to be me?
     No one deserves this,
Mommy; warn the others,
Mommy, I left without a kiss.
     And Mommy, tell the doctors;
I know they really did try,
I think I even saw a doctor,
Trying not to cry.
     Mommy, I'm slowly dying,
with a bullet in my chest,
But Mommy, please remember,
I’m in heaven with the rest.
     Mommy, I ran as fast as I could,
When I heard that crack,
Mommy, listen to me if you would, I'm not coming back.
     I wanted to go to college,
I wanted to try things that were new, I guess I'm not going with Daddy;
on that trip to the new zoo.
     I wanted to get married,
I wanted to have a kid,
I wanted to be an actress,
Mommy, I wanted to live.
     But Mommy, I'm must go now,
the time is getting late,
Mommy tell my boyfriend,
I’m sorry, but I had to cancel the date.
     I love you Mommy, I always have,
I know; you know it's true,
And Mommy all I wanted to say is,
     "Mommy, I love you"

ok, well I would like to start off by protecting myself and make it very aware that this is in no way shape or form mine. However, I felt the need to post it because it is very touching and on a very sad and controversial topic and this problem does exist. This is one of my personal favorites; not because I am morbid or anything like that, but because it touched me in such a way that no other poem could. Please do not think I am commiting plagerism by any means, I just want you all to feel as touched by this poem as I did. Love ~*~Jessica Lynn~*~

p.s.-your replies would be helpful. I would like to hear what you all think, and if you all were as touched as I was. =0)

I was extremely touched by this poem.  There are several poems I've heard that ar similar that convey a message that's powerful to society like that.  Thank you for putting that up there.  Work kicked my ass tonight and I need something emotional like that to soften me up a little bit.  If I can get a hold of my exgirlfriend, I'll have her send me a copy of another one similar to that and I'll send it to ya to read or maybe I'll post it.  nice idea. bye.

Thanks for you reply Jeremy! I love this poem. It just about brings me to tears, I then think about how my life could end tragically with out being able to tell the people I love good-bye. I always try to live my life like it's my last day and show everyone how much I love them...before it's too late. thxs! Love Jess

 always follow your heart, never follow others unless it is truely where you want to go, and never give up a dream, maybe just set it aside for a while... :)

Hey you guys! thanks for your replies! I truly cried when I read this poem. I love in Colorado and the shootings at Columbine have a great impact around here and I suppose it gave this poem a greater meaning to me. It is very sad that all this has to happen and I hope that soon the message will be spread and innocent people won't have to die any more! please keep yourselves safe!
