My heart doesn't dare

Is it true
the saying that absence makes the heart grow fonder?
or is it, like
everything else, in this ethereal world
just a pack of lies
meant to deceive us, and our
gullible minds?

I once believed
and hung on so dearly as if my life depended upon it.
but alas, was I
like everyone else, in this surreal world
just another fool
who wagered everything he had
on what he thought was true?

Love given
but not returned, drains the heart like sand through the hourglass.
and when it is empty, I
cannot but turn to someone else
for comfort and care.
Trust me, I long to love you
but my heart doesn't dare.

A very interesting poem, eagle. I believe when you are truly in love that yes, absence makes the heart grow fonder....the same way we love winter more when its 90 degrees outside.
