She falls to her knees
her hands clench the loose dirt beneath her
she screams at the sky
the tears have made a puddle of mud beneath her sobbing eyes
she forces herself to an upright position and cries to God:

"Why, Oh God, why? Is this a test? How could you grace my life with such a beautiful love, love like I've never known, and tempt me with someone you know I could not resist, and knowing he would go away, that this would end? Is this another test? Don't you think I've proved my strength to you? Haven't you put me through enough? Lord, God heavenly father, please make it stop the pain hurts too deeply!"

She sits silent for a while, knees to her chest rocking back and forth, dirty traces of tears drape her cheeks. She will go on, she will live to be an old woman, but she will never forget him, the love that was shared and the hardest decision of her entire life. She will grow to tell her grandchildren all the stories of her adventure filled lifetime, and included will be the endless legacy of a love that was the closest thing to heaven.

-love will live on in the heart and in dreams....

I like the entire piece..
the prayer to God in the 2nd stanza was
very heartfelt and beautiful.

Hauntingly sad
