You are gone
So I’m not the same
I was a sibling
Now I am an only child
I was a little sister
But no more.
No longer a sister-in-law.
I’m not allowed to be Aunt.
You were my dear friend.
It was so hard to let you go.
You were my example
Where do I look now?
I was your tagalong
Now whom can I follow?
You were my children’s “Unc”
Now they are no longer nieces.
I shared your passion for horses
But now they bring little comfort.
How can I carry on?
In so many ways
I am all alone because
You are gone.

My daughter asked me to write this poem for her.
I lost a son -she lost a brother.

From grief comes strength. And you are right...Identity is forged in the transition from "tagalong" to stand-alone.

It is an expressive piece, but you're still holding back. It seems a bit detached, but facing up to loss is a process.

Best of luck to you.

Oh my, I really felt the pain in your words. I have an overwhelming feeling to give hugs to all those I hold dear....and anyone who passes by at this moment. Hold onto the memories. Keep them close to your heart and relay them to those who mean most to you. In this, he will always be beside you. Take care.
