The value of a life can never be
Determined by a title or degree
Those little scraps just clutter up the wall
They're really not worth very much at all
If a mind is blind and simply can not see
The surpassing value of humility
Yes, all your learning has truly been for naught
Just a waste of time if it has not taught
That worth is not defined at all you see
By what you've learned or by a school decree.

Be proud of what you've done; you have done well
-How far you'll go, well, who of us can tell?
You did your best; you gave it all you had
You should be thrilled; you should be very glad
But as you hang that frame upon your wall
Just ponder, please, these wisest words of all...
It's not worth a thing...without integrity
And worth still less...without humility
If you heed these words, yes, take them to your heart
You'll surely be a scholar who's truly smart!

dsnyder,
Well I don't know how this classic slipped down so far without being commented upon.
I'll just kick it up where it belongs.
A wonderful poem that I really enjoyed.

Thanks for the nudge, Seymour. This was written in response to some wrong attitudes at my former place of employment. Sometimes, no matter how hard you try, you can't change a bad attitude! Oh well, their loss!

Yes, this was good! I am surprised it hasn't had more comments than this! Words that should be heeded!

Thank you WhtDove. I do believe that the world would be a much nicer place if people did not think more highly of themselves than is appropriate and did not judge others for their number of degrees or lack thereof! But that's just my opinion!

Thanks again!

I love the lesson in the poetry, and totally agree, it's been a touchy subject for me and it's good to see the view in a lovely poem as well.
