I believe I have posted this before, but received a request to repost it. Tale of Abuse!

Late and in the still of night
The blows of the aggressor strike
Her crime, loving him so much
But his strokes aren't just touch

Quietly she suffers the pain
Muffled sighs as the blow lands again
The perfect couple says the neighbor
I had no idea that he would hit her

The bruises show but she would say
That she fell or slipped that day
He leaves for work at early dawn
His victim lie tattered and worn

No time to cry the children wake
I must not let the see me this way
Quickly to makeup to conceal
To cover this terrible ordeal.

The oldest son has grown tall
Stands and listens in the hall
The blows are harder with each hit
He has grown tired of all the shit

He stands up to the abuser
Wants him to stop hitting her
Through the door and lands a punch
He's hit so hard like being drunk

Enough's enough you hateful man
Leave her alone don't hit her again
Hit me you mean hateful S.O.B.
Hit me and just let her be.

She never could walk out the door
He was the breadwinner, soul support
The children grow and move away
Hardly visit home these days.

The victim and abuser now old
His violent temper has grown cold
She in her room keeps to herself
He pulls old movies from the shelf

Abuse now over and the pain remains
Various ailments she suffers again
He sits and wonders what went wrong
She limps slightly as she moves along

Listen to this and please hear me
Leave there, get out, and get free
The children know the cry in silence
Their faces you can see the grimace

As they carry the abuser to the grave
They tried but the victim wasn't saved
He couldn't take her whimpers and pain
So he shoots her and him as he aims.

This story doesn't have to be true
Don't let it become the history of you
Leave now, go quickly, and move away
Get to safety forget what people say.

It's your life if you choose to remain
But don't let the kids see it again
The scars heal on the outside of you
But they could stay forever in you.

This is a message that needs to be heard. Too many people are living in this self imposed hell, too afraid to get out. Great work, SF!

This one strikes a bit too close to home for my comfort....I am glad that part of my life is now over
You did a nice job with a hard subject

Very well written. And amen to you, Hoot. So glad for you and me that our stories didn't turn out like this. It's worth the pain to get OUT!

Well done and same as hoot, it hits too close to home. That part of my life is also now over but just recently. All those that read this and feel the pain of each blow. Get out and save a trusting soul...and the children.

Thank you for your comments. It is very true. Sad, but I sent it to a battered women's site and they refused it. *sigh*

Great poem,,,,I can't see why a shelter would refuse it........

Id like to say Im sorry for all of you who have been in this situation. I was in one that is in many ways similar to this, but also completely different, but Im sure my hell pales in comparison with this.

I was the the child ... this is my take on the events. some will say it wasnt that way..but this is my story and sticking to it.. all is based on life with the exception of the final outcomes.. that comes from what i saw as a medic.
